Invisalign - FAQ

Invisalign is a type of orthodontic appliance which can help realign teeth giving you a more visually appealing and healthy smile. They can help with crowded or overlapping teeth, teeth with spaces between them, and even overbites and underbites. We all know that straight teeth look great, but most people don’t realize some of the health risks associated with misaligned teeth, such as gum disease, bad breath, greater risk of getting cavities, chips, cracks, and wear on teeth caused by an improper bite, and jaw problems, along with a few other issues.

Invisalign consists of a sequence of clear aligners, worn all day and all night. Aligners are typically switched out for the next one every two weeks. Each aligner puts pressure on your teeth in various spots causing them to slowly move to a more desirable position – similar to how traditional braces work.

Most people who want to straighten their teeth or close spaces between them are candidates for Invisalign. There are some instances, however, where traditional braces may be more effective in helping achieve straighter teeth. We can help evaluate your current smile and help you decide which method would work best for your preferences.

This varies greatly with everyone. It can take as little as three months or up to two years or longer. It really depends on how much your teeth need to move to reach their desired positions.

There are some changes in your daily routine that you’ll have to make in order to achieve the best results. Ideally, Invisalign aligners should be worn all day and all night, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. You shouldn’t eat or drink with your aligners in – only clear, non-carbonated water is okay to consume with your aligners in place. You can leave them out on occasion for an event, but doing so too often may negatively alter your results or lengthen the time of treatment.
